5 Easy Steps to Selling on Amazon

If you enjoy shopping online, chances are that you’ve used auction and secondhand shops before. Many websites, including Amazon, enable users to sell used items through the store. What many users don’t realize, however, is that selling items can be quite lucrative. In fact, it’s possible to make a full-time income selling anything from books to hair dye on Amazon! If you’re ready to start making money from home, you can begin to sell on Amazon in five easy steps.

  1. Pick your niche

When you first start to sell online, it’s a good idea to pick a specific niche. While many sellers do have inventory in different niches, you should start with just one until you have the hang of things. Focusing on just one type of product will let you build up a quality inventory and will help you to start building report with your customers. Not sure where to start? Consider selling an item that you’re very familiar with or that you can acquire easily. Popular starting niches include books, video games, and DVDs.

  1. Collect your inventory

Whether you want to start selling off your current collection of items or you plan to create a full, well-rounded storefront, you’ll need to get some inventory to continue selling on Amazon. It’s a good idea to find a place where you can acquire inventory on a regular and ongoing basis. Some examples of places to get items include thrift shops, garage sales, auctions, and even discounted packages on other sale sites.

  1. Price appropriately

While it might be tempting to overprice your items, remember that you want people to buy what you’re offering. There are many other sellers on Amazon, so you’ll need to price your inventory appropriately. Look at what other sellers are listing an item for and pick your price based on that. In general, it’s a good idea to choose an asking price that’s somewhere in the middle of what other sellers are offering.

  1. Ship promptly

Once you receive an order, make sure that you ship it immediately. Never wait a few days or a few weeks to ship an item. You’ll usually have 48 hours to ship something before it is a late shipment. If you want repeat customers and high ratings on the site, make sure that you always package and ship your items as soon as possible.

  1. Follow up

Finally, you need to make sure that you follow-up with your customers. Don’t be afraid to email and ask if they were satisfied with their purchase or if they’d be willing to leave you feedback. Even if you have a lot of sales, not everyone is used to leaving feedback, so you can accomplish a lot just by asking.
